Final Topic (Hopefully)

Well I have finally decided on a topic thanks to some guidance from Dale. I have settled on looking at steel and concrete construction in high rises and which is better for offices and which is better for a residential building. I will be comparing the pros and cons between each system for both types of building and the method of construction behind them.

Meeting with the Mentor

I had meeting in with my mentor, James, on Friday and he provided a lot of input of how to narrow down my research topic. Currently I am thinking of either looking at the embodied emissions of a 6 storey wood-frame house versus a similar concrete structure or the durability of 6 storey wood-frame versus concrete in social housing projects. Will update when I decide on which topic is final.

Research Proposal

Currently the topic for my research proposal is undetermined, but it will most likely be along the lines of what it is now. It needs to be narrowed down and simplified a bit so that I'm not covering a range of topics. Thank you to everyone who has posted comments and research aid so far.

The research is concerning medium residential affordable housing and how it can be made more environmentally friendly. Throughout my research I will be comparing the life-cycle of 6 storey wood-frame apartment versus a conventional concrete and steel version to determine if the wood-frame can reach LEED Platinum level while still being affordable to lowing income families.
